Updated: Mar 26

Heading to Austin for Running Remote 2025?

Lucky you—you're landing in one of the most vibrant, walkable, and creative corners of the city: East Austin. Beyond the panels and networking at Fair Market, East Austin is brimming with personality—think quirky coffee shops, must-try taco stands, stylish coworking spaces, and art tucked around every corner.

Whether you’re squeezing in a few emails between sessions, grabbing a quick bite with fellow attendees, or looking for a local gem to unwind after a long day of networking, we’ve scoped out the best spots within arm’s reach of the venue. From productivity powerhouses to flavor-packed bites, here’s your go-to guide for making the most of your time in East Austin.

Situated in East Austin at 1515 East Caesar Chavez, The Malin provides a stylish and intimate coworking environment with a personal touch. The space features tons of original art collected by the owner which lends both whimsy and creative warmth to the space. With flexible workspaces, bookable meeting rooms, a focus on community and plenty of cozy nooks to hide out in, the vibes are ideal for nomads seeking a collaborative atmosphere that really feels like home.

Located at 310 Comal Street, Bond Collective is a luxurious, modern workspace with incredible amenities designed for productivity and comfort, including showers, a gym, bookable podcast studios and multiple well-stocked kitchens.

If you’re used to luxury amenities and a stylish workspace, this is where you will want to set up shop.

It also features plentiful outdoor patio space and a neighboring dog park if you’re traveling with a furry friend, or just like to hang around and dogwatch! 🐶

Cafes / Bars in East Austin

Catch a vibe at Cosmic Saltillo

Discovered at 1300 E. 4th Street, Cosmic Saltillo is a vibrant gathering spot combining coffee, cocktails, and a full service cantina. Its spacious outdoor patio features free WIFI, plentiful seating, succulent gardens and water features making it perfect for casual meetings, getting some work done al fresco or unwinding after sessions. Try their spiked iced coffee for little afternoon pep in your step!

Lovely Cocktails at Kitty Cohen's
Cocktails at Kitty Cohen's

This authentic 70’s patio bar at 2211 Webberville Road offers a relaxed atmosphere with kitschy decor, inventive cocktails and a relaxing poolside lounge vibe.

This dive bar is the real Austin deal - open since 1977 and a cornerstone of Austin’s local bar & kickback culture.

Relax while catching a few rays while sipping mai tais by the pool or attend one of their many music nights featuring local Austin talent and tasty treats (think crawfish boils and chef's choice ceviche!) 🦞

Beans, Beer & Bubbles

Located at 500 San Marcos Street, Brew & Brew seamlessly blends a coffee shop and craft beer bar. With excellent coffee, a wide selection of beers, and a laid-back environment, it's just a block west of Fair Market and your best bet for quality brew (and brews!) during the conference. Featuring a nice (dog-friendly!) patio that gets sun all day, plus they’ve recently expanded their liquor sales and feature some lovely organic wines to take home.

Shopping in East Austin

A view of women's boutique Lovecraft in East Austin

Located at 1107 E. 6th Street, Lovecraft offers a curated selection of women’s vintage clothing and local artisan goods.

It's a great spot to find unique souvenirs, your new signature fragrance or simply browse through eclectic items not found elsewhere.

My Lovecraft picks include: Saint Rita Parlor's classic smokey Eau de Parfum, Katrina O'Day's Coil Rings or anything from denim designer Shaina Mote.

A beautiful handcrafted cowboy hat by Trovador Custom hats in East Austin

This incredible artisan workshop-meet-gallery 1204 E. Caesar Chavez, specializes in handcrafted hats and showcases local art. Visitors can see hats being made on site and appreciate the craftsmanship or even commission a custom piece (for a price, mind you). However, the shop also features plenty of leather goods, accessories and art prints available at more accessible price points.

Situated at 1211 E. 11th Street, Take Heart is a boutique offering small handcrafted goods, homewares, and art pieces. It's perfect for those seeking unique items that reflect Austin's creative spirit and a little something to take home for your loved ones (or yourself!). Lovely selection of locally made candles & skincare at reasonable prices. My picks: Hasami Japanese Porcelain Incense sticks or Wonder Valley's Little Wonders set.

Food in East Austin

There are quite a few eating options in East Austin, so we’ve broken up restaurants by genre/style of food. There are so many great establishments it was almost impossible to narrow down to these few, so I definitely recommend exploring beyond this list.

Just walk down East 6th, 7th or 11th and you will find dozens of amazing options!

You can also download this handy Google Map we’ve created to aid in finding these picks on the go.

BBQ
A car speeds past La Barbeque in East Austin

One of Austin’s only women-owned and run BBQ joints, La Barbecue (found at 2401 E. Cesar Chavez,) is renowned for its Central Texas-style barbecue. With mouth-watering brisket and savory ribs, it's a must-visit for BBQ enthusiasts!

Mexican

Delightful churros and an espresso martini at Licha's Cantina in East Austin
Licha's dessert does not disappoint!

Located at 1306 E. 6th Street, Licha's offers Mexico City soul food in a cozy setting with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Their tacos, made with fresh ingredients, are both authentic and delicious. I also recommend trying their ceviche in Mexico City style. Drop by for one of their margaritas, stay for the churros and vibes!

An exterior view of Suerte's patio in East Austin

The second establishment by renowned Austin Exec chief and Michelin favorite Fermin Nunez (of Estes fame,) Suerte (1800 E. 6th Street) specializes in dishes centered around masa (traditional Mexican corn).

Their tacos are a fusion of traditional techniques and local flavors, offering a unique culinary experience you won't forget anytime soon. Definitely a must-visit on any East Austin trip!

This longstanding food truck at 1210 E. Cesar Chavez serves authentic Mexican street tacos that always hits - day or night. With a variety of fillings and fresh toppings, it's a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and won’t punish your pocketbook! My favorites are their Campechano and Lengua tacos (don't ask, just eat it). 🌮

Sweet

Located at 1109 East 5th St, Dolce Neve offers small batch, artisanal gelato made from scratch in a variety of unique flavors such as Graza olive oil, Blueberry Goat Cheese and Matcha Mascarpone (surprisingly delicious!) . Despite some unconventional flavours, their commitment to traditional Italian methods ensures a delightful treat for anyone with a sweet tooth . And they’re conveniently located right across the street from Fair Market for a cheeky pop-out!

The entrance to Cenote in East Austin
Cenote offers a hidden oasis

Found at 1010 E. Cesar Chavez, Cenote is a hidden gem of a neighborhood café known for its specialty coffee, delicious homestyle comfort food and wild, plant-filled oasis just steps from downtown.

Their crunchy chicken sandwich & home fries is a standout for me, and their shaded patio offers relief from the bustling crowds of Austin. Grab an ice cold Austin East Cider and enjoy. Just watch out for hungry grackles - they will steal food right off your plate!

Paperboy's delightful sunny patio in East Austin

Situated at 1203 E. 11th Street, Paperboy serves elevated breakfast and brunch dishes in a relaxed but upscale environment. Their commitment to quality ingredients and an innovative menu makes it a popular spot for a breakfast meeting - just a short jaunt from the conference center. Just be sure to make a reservation for parties larger than 1 or 2 people.
